DOAN Quang-Van (he/his)

Asst Prof, Center for Computational Sciences, University of Tsukuba

Description

Prof (Asst) DOAN Quang Van is at the forefront of high-resolution climate prediction for cities and possesses extensive expertise in numerical modeling and artificial intelligence/machine learning. He has developed a multi-layer urban canopy model coupled with a ray-tracing method, working and improving the urban representation in regional climate models like WRF and uSINGV. His work investigates the interaction of metropolitan areas with global warming and its impact on modifying the urban heat island effect and localized weather patterns. He is also a pioneer in the development/application of data mining techniques for climate research, notably the Structural Self Organizing Map algorithm. Currently.

Prof Doan QV serves as a board member of the Board on Urban Environment (AMS), representing the regional climate risk hub (My Climate Risk, WRCP, WMO). Furthermore, he actively participates as a committee member in various international conferences and symposiums focused on urban climates, such as AOGS, AGU, AMS, and IAUC.
