• Sun Solaris 5.6 (SPARC and x86) and 5.8 with Solaris threads and POSIX threads.
• Linux 2.2.7 (redhat-6.0, x86 SMP) with linux-threads.

If you have a problem on a java VM, or you have no java VM, or you need to speed up the compilation, try to install using "jexc". See Installation using "jexc" . Note that no SCASH implementation is supported by "jexc" installation.

• Get the Omni distribution,"Omni-1.6.tar.gz"
• You need the following software to install and use the Omni compiler:
  • gnu bison or yacc to make the parser.
  • Java Development Kit, JDK (later than 1.1.3, 1.2.2 prefferred) or Kaffe (1.0.5 or later). (If you have no JDK, or don't want to use JDK, you can install using 'jexc'. See Installation using "jexc" .)
  • Thread library. Solaris thread or POSIX thread library, On SGI IRIX, sproc is also used.
• Unpack the distribution file.

  gzip -dc Omni-1.6.tar.gz | tar xvf -
  

• Change the current directory to Omni directory.

  cd Omni
  

• Run "configure".

   % configure 
  

  or

   % configure --prefix=  your_install_directory 
  

  Options are:

  
  

  --prefix= install_dir

  Specify the install directory. The default prefix is "/usr/local".

  --with-cc=CC

  Specify C compiler to use with 'CC' (cc default).

  --with-opt=OPT

  Specify C compiler options for optimization (and others) with 'OPT'.

  --with-cppflag=OPT

  Specify C preprocessor options with 'OPT'.

  --enable-debug

  Enable generate executable with debug symbol (false default)

  --with-debug=OPT

  Specify C compiler options for debuggable executaable file creation with 'OPT'.

  --enable-gcc

  Enable usgin of GCC as default C compiler (false default).

  --with-jvm

  Use Java runtime/development tools environment (true default). If you have no jvm, or don't want to use jvm, use '--without-jvm'. For the detail of installation using jexc, see Installation using "jexc" .

  --enable-jexcBinary

  Enable using of binary executable version of the backend translatosr (C-back, F-back) in omni compile driver. Default off.

  --enable-stackThreads

  Enable StackThreads support. Default off. When enabling StackThreads, make sure you have stgcc StackThreads compiler and it is in your PATH environmental variable.

  --enable-shmem

  Enable UNIX-like shared memory runtime support. Default off.

  --enable-scash

  Enable scash runtime support. Default off. When enabling scash, make sure you have RWCP SCore 3.x Cluster System Software.

  --with-scoreDir=scoreDir

  Specify where the SCore is installed. Default is "/opt/score".

  --with-thread=type

  Specify a default thread mechanism to use. Default is platform dependent (Solaris: solaris, IRIX: sproc, others: pthread). If specified, default configuration of thread for omcc/omf77 is set to the type

  --with-lock=type

  Specify a default lock mechanism to use. Default is platform dependent (SPARC, IRIX/mips, i386: spin, others: mutex). If specified, default configuration of lock for omcc/omf77 is set to the type

  --enable-mreal

  Enable multiple precision real (and real*16) support of Fortran 77 (false default).

  --with-gmpLibDir=DIR

  Specify where the GNU-MP library is for multiple precision/quad real support with 'DIR'.

  --with-gmpIncDir=DIR

  Specify where the GNU-MP include heades are for multiple precision/quad real support with 'DIR'.

  --with-precision=NUM

  Specify the default precision of real*16 in bits with 'NUM' (128 default).

  
  
• Run "make" to compile the sources.

  % make
  

• Run "make install" to install the compiler.

  % make install
  

• Make sure that the command path includes 'install_directory/bin'.
