From Narita International Airport to the city of Tsukuba

The City of Tsukuba, the Science City, is located about 50km north-west of the New Tokyo International Airport in Narita. The Narita-Tsukuba-Tsuchiura shuttle bus service takes 100 minutes to reach Tsukuba from the Airport via Route 408.

The shuttle bus leaves the Airport from a designated stop outside of the terminal buildings at the following time table. The ticket costs 2540Yen, to be purchased at the counter inside the terminal building prior to boarding. The final destination of the bus is Tsuchiura Station (JR East). You should get off the bus at "Tsukuba Center". Before arriving at Tsukuba Center, the bus may stop at a few bus stops.

Taxis take about 90 minutes to reach Tsukuba from the Airport and costs more than 15000Yen. Taxi stands outside the terminal buildings are separated depending on destinations. Locate the stand for Ibaraki prefecture area, and tell the driver to go to Tsukuba Science City.

From the city of Tsukuba to Narita International Airport

Seats on the bus from Tsukuba to Narita must be reserved.

You can buy the tickets at the "Kanto-Tetsudo, Tsukuba-Gakuen Service Center" (located in the Tsukuba Center Bus Terminal.)

From Haneda Airport to the city of Tsukuba

By Bus

If you arrive at International Terminal, you should move to the Terminal 1 by free terminal shuttle bus.

The ticket costs 1800Yen, to be purchased at the counter inside the terminal building prior to boarding. You should get off the bus at the final stop, "Tsukuba Center". Before arriving at Tsukuba Center, the bus may stop at a few bus stops.

By Train

The Tokyo Monorail connects between Haneda airport and Hamamatsu-cho. From Hamamatsu-cho, transfer to the JR Yamanote Line, and get off at Akihabara. The Tsukuba Express Line connects Akihabara and Tsukuba (58.3 km, 20 stations) in 45 minutes by rapid service or in 52 minutes by semi rapid service.

Time&Cost: Tokyo Monorail approx. 25 min, 470 Yen; JR Yamanote Line approx. 10 min, 160 Yen; Tsukuba Express Line approx. 45 min, 1150 Yen.

From the city of Tsukuba to Haneda Airport

To take a bus to Haneda Airport is not recommended due to heavy traffic jam.
